UBSCT = Utah Basic Skills Competency Test
In 1999, the Utah State Legislature called for the construction and implementation of a basic skills competency test to be given in the tenth grade. I graduated in 1997, thus AVOIDING this stinking test.
Is it really a good idea to give students a STANDARDIZED test? Is the UBSCT an accurate assessment? Who knows. All I know is that all Sophmores in the state are taking this lovely test and I am a UBSCT proctor. What a joy. If students don't pass it, their diploma will say, "Did not pass UBSCT" and they will probably NOT get into any college/university. Interesting. Is this test holding teachers and studetns more accountable? Maybe.
